Finding A Coach

If you want to take karting seriously, you'll need someone to teach you the basics. If you've found a track near you, that is a good place to search for people wiling to coach you. Of course, like everything in this sport, coaching is not cheap with prices ranging from $200-$500 or more per month. And this is just for coaching, not including the mechanic. A coach will guide you through the racing lines and the braking points of the track. It will be especially good if you find a coach with experience at your chosen track. A coach will typically point out your mistakes and tell you how to improve. However a coach is most useful when you're starting out, as later on with more experience you'll be able to see your own mistakes and know how to fix them and what to try to improve on without the help of a coach. For this to happen though, it will be very helpful if you get an accurate GPS for your kart. They come with a screen for your steering wheel and display useful information during races or practice sessions like, current speed, rpm, delta time and different temperatures if you make use of sensors. These devices map out your lines through the track and you can later analyze your lines and braking points on your computer. So it acts like a personal coach. Although it doesn't tell you what you do wrong and what to improve, if you have someone else's lines you can compare them with yours and see what hey do better.
